Aluna Francis and George Reid struck a chord when they released their heavily anticipated original production, “Attracting Flies,” under their moniker Aluna George. Lurking in the background of all the instantaneous hype for this new track was a remix from the Harlem Shake sensation, Bauuer. Looking to shed the stigma behind his internet craze, Baauer steps up to the plate with a huge edit to the English electronic groups new single.
My biggest worry when I saw Baauer‘s name on the remix bill was that the vocals were going to get drowned out with his signature trap sound. He dispels my preconceived notions, though, with a more sophisticated bass sound that still maintains the Bauuer bounce we all know and love. Also set to take on “Attracting Flies” with their own renditions are Jamie Jones and S-Type. You can purchase this Bauuer remix at midnight tonight on Beatport, but Aluna George‘s debut album isn’t expected to hit stores until July 1st.
It seems like a bit of a paradox that one can make earthy connected songs with various technological pieces, but Eskmo seems to have found that exact niche with his new EP Terra. After his previous release Language out on Ancestor back in October, Terra brings a totally new perspective, this time darker, slower, and more “earthy”. It’s a wonderful release filled with emotion and craftily arranged drums and progressions that are both moving and soulful. You can grab the EP over on his website (and name your own price for it too), and read my quick little interview with him after the jump.
The day has finally come! Flying Lotus‘ second full-length album, Until the Quiet Comes has finally dropped and it has already exceeded my extremely high expectations set by Cosmogramma. The Los Angeles native, known for his genre-bending compositions, has outdone even himself this time; fusing a mixture of hip-hop, jazz, funk, blues, dubstep and psychedelia together to produce an unique cosmic sound. Until the Quiet Comes is a journey. A journey through a psychedelic soundscape that slowly builds on itself with the addition of every new sound and then jerks you back into reality, only to slowly bring you back, note by note. The album offers no dull moments as it continuously stimulates its listener with Flying Lotus’ unparalleled compositions, stunning even the most scrutinizing of ears. Until the Quiet Comes is a real gem; from the dirty low end of Sultan’s Request, the breath-taking change up of The Nightcaller, or the pure and jazzy melodic vibrations of Until the Quite Comes, this album is gorgeous. Until the Quiet Comes may just be my album of the year; I cannot recommend it enough.

Capturing sounds form the center of all things supernatural (Bermuda Triangle), Otto Von Shirach’s music is indescriptible. Squirting spastic influences of booty bass, death metal, breakcore, hip hop, goregrind and more… the Cuban/German antihero has managed to become one of the weirdest most revolutionary musicians in electronic music. His extreme enthusiasm and low brow sense of humor is by far one of my most loved things about his art. After 3 years away gathering sounds from the future, Otto is back with his new album ‘Supermeng’ on Monkey Town Records, where he illustrates menacing every day stories of the life of a descarado super human full of sucieriasy cabronerias.
GDD™ takes great pleasure in introducing you to Main Course, a label, PR firm, and all-around fantastic concept with the aim of “releasing high quality music for free to those that will listen.” While this may seem generous beyond belief, don’t forgot that the releases “are also available for puchase via Beatport, and iTunes for those who want to support the artists financially.” They say “more than anything, we just want the music to be heard and shared with everyone.” What a lovely bunch of lads they are!
Their first release comes from enigmatic young upstarts known only as The Slow Waves. The EP offers up two distinct offerings. The A-side, Underbelly, reminds me of melancholic New Order sans vocals. Undertow makes me think of Explosions in the Sky, if Explosions in the Sky were from Malibu instead of Texas. Have a listen to the tracks after the jump, download for free, and if you and your credit card are so inclined throw the artists a bone or two and purchase these two quality tunes! Also check out the stellar video for Undertow! Continue Reading

Our buddy Steve Slingeneyer, or One Man Party and the drummer of Soulwax, has a seriously admirable taste in music. Besides being the percussive force behind one of the greatest dance music acts of all time, Steve also enjoys a bit of DJing as well, much like his band mates the Dewaele brothers of 2ManyDJs fame. Driven by this love of DJing, One Man Party has just released a brand new mixtape featuring an unbelievably cultivated tracklist featuring Justin Martin, DJ Pierre, Justice, a few tracks from OMP himself, and everything in between. Download it for free and check out the exquisite tracklist below. √+Continue Reading

As some of you might know, Brighton-based producer Ital Tek (Alan Mayson), has been consistently evolving his sound per release — organically gaining respect over the past few years. Even though Dubstep made a huge impression on Mayson’s past music production, like many of us, he eventually got tired of the genre’s growing dullness. This adversity drove Ital Tek to once again push himself, landing on the grounds of juke & footwork. Continue Reading
