Cashmere Cat has made a name for himself in the DJ world at the DMC championships, but has recently started to acquire a following for his production abilities. His single, “Mirror Maru” did so well, in fact, that a remix EP is due out soon on Pelican Fly records. As an Easter goody, though, he has chosen to release a remix that Brodinski and Guillaume (of The Shoes) put together for him on Cashmere Cat‘s soundcloud. The comment, “This took the original and flipped it completely on its head,” from ohWut said it best, because very little of the original is left to be recognized. The dramatic strings put you on edge as the piano comes in to iron out any tension the climactic builds may have caused, as a completely new track rises to the surface.

My favorite psych-rock experimental group is at it again.  American Royalty just released their highly anticipated EP entitled Prismatic, on Guns in the Sun Records, and it is quite the harmonious gem with sweeping sound waves and infectious hooks.  No 2 songs alike, each spectacularly different and moving in their own way.  The music depth and versatility is extremely apparent in this album, and apparent upon your first listen.  I’m confident you’ll be back for much more.

Quote by American Royalty regarding the track “Hungry”:
“Hungry is one of the first songs that we ever wrote in a live setting rather than a studio. We’re very excited about the way its transitioned into a recorded number, but honestly for us, its always been about that heavy bass hitting you in the chest. So turn it up.”

I dare anyone to find a more perfect fit between past + present than Poolside’s rework of “Planet Caravan” by Black Sabbath.  Sabbath’s beautifully haunting 1970s classic gets a psychedelic re-work from daytime disco masters Poolside and the result is absolute perfection.

“We sail through endless skies
Stars shine like eyes
The black night sighs
The moon in silver trees
Falls down in tears
Light of the night
The earth, a purple blaze
Of sapphire haze
In orbit always

While down below the trees
Bathed in cool breeze
Silver starlight breaks down the night
And so we pass on by the crimson eye
Of great god mars
As we travel the universe”

It takes a certain someone to pull off a nine minute jam in electronic music.  Certain names come to mind when pulling off such a feat: Erol Alkan, Tommie Sunshine, LCD Soundsystem, Tiga.  And the label that sticks out when it comes to the nine minute plus opus is DFA.  Nine minutes plus is an unappreciated song duration and very few can do it well.

The day has finally come!  Flying Lotus‘ second full-length album, Until the Quiet Comes has finally dropped and it has already exceeded my extremely high expectations set by Cosmogramma.  The Los Angeles native, known for his genre-bending compositions, has outdone even himself this time; fusing a mixture of hip-hop, jazz, funk, blues, dubstep and psychedelia together to produce an unique cosmic sound.  Until the Quiet Comes is a journey.  A journey through a psychedelic soundscape that slowly builds on itself with the addition of every new sound and then jerks you back into reality, only to slowly bring you back, note by note.  The album offers no dull moments as it continuously stimulates its listener with Flying Lotus’ unparalleled compositions, stunning even the most scrutinizing of ears.  Until the Quiet Comes is a real gem; from the dirty low end of Sultan’s Request, the breath-taking change up of The Nightcaller, or the pure and jazzy melodic vibrations of Until the Quite Comes, this album is gorgeous.  Until the Quiet Comes may just be my album of the year; I cannot recommend it enough.

GDD™ takes great pleasure in introducing you to Main Course, a label, PR firm, and all-around fantastic concept with the aim of “releasing high quality music for free to those that will listen.” While this may seem generous beyond belief, don’t forgot that the releases “are also available for puchase via Beatport, and iTunes for those who want to support the artists financially.” They say “more than anything, we just want the music to be heard and shared with everyone.” What a lovely bunch of lads they are!

Their first release comes from enigmatic young upstarts known only as The Slow Waves. The EP offers up two distinct offerings. The A-side, Underbelly, reminds me of melancholic New Order sans vocals. Undertow makes me think of Explosions in the Sky, if Explosions in the Sky were from Malibu instead of Texas. Have a listen to the tracks after the jump, download for free, and if you and your credit card are so inclined throw the artists a bone or two and purchase these two quality tunes! Also check out the stellar video for Undertow!
